Carbon nanotubes as a solution for the abatement of organic substances
Innovacarbon is the innovative start-up born to carry on the studies made by the team about nanotechnology and its potential applications in the environmental field. The last decades have been the scene of continuous research on the possible uses of this particular carbon-based nanomaterial, thus rediscovering a wide range of sectors and a consequent increased demand on the market. Paints, electronic products, cosmetics, sports equipment are just some of the products in which we see their use. Of great importance are the benefits that have been demonstrated in the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields.
The adsorption capacity of carbon nanotubes was already known, that is, the property of the surface of a solid substance that fixes molecules of a gas or liquid with which it is in contact thanks to molecular attractions or valence forces. This material, with a diameter ranging from 0.1nm to just 10nm, presents significant application barriers in the environmental field due to the difficulty in managing its size and shape (powder). Our team was able to overcome the so-called "drag-flow" problem and offer a low cost and highly efficient filtering system.
Innovacarbon's corporate mission is to provide an alternative solution to environmental problems through the use of nanotechnology. Our solution is the Innovacarbon adsorbing filters able to break down a wide range of organic substances in wastewater, such as dyes from the textile industry and hydrocarbons from industrial liquid streams, as well as water from some processes in the chemical industry where it is necessary to break down a certain amount of light hydrocarbons. Compared to methods now considered traditional such as membrane treatments in general and those with activated carbon, the filter is not subject to expensive maintenance costs and, indeed, in comparing with other abatement methods, there is the ability to recover the adsorbed substance if requested by the customer. Maintaining a strong vocation for research, Innovacarbon's challenge is to continue to increase the application possibilities of this filtering material.
The team is composed of engineers whose technical-scientific skills have allowed the complete development of all the design phases of a product with a high innovation content: from the recognition of the need, research and development of the material, to its optimization and its introduction in well-defined application ranges.
